How to Change the WiFi Password on a Huawei Modem

Published · August 7, 2026

Changing the WiFi password on a Huawei modem is straightforward. Log in to the admin page at 192.168.8.1 and follow these steps. They work on the B310, B312, Orbit Star 2 (B312-929), B525, and other Huawei modems.

Steps

  1. Connect your phone to the modem’s WiFi and open 192.168.8.1 in a browser.
  2. Log in. If you have never changed it, use the default admin / admin credentials (see the default password list).
  3. Open WLAN or WiFi then WiFi Basic Settings.
  4. In the SSID field, rename the network if you like.
  5. In the WPA PreSharedKey field, enter a new password. It must be at least 8 characters.
  6. Click Save or Apply.

Once saved, every connected device drops off. Reconnect them with the new password.

Tips

  • Use a strong password: a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid birthdays and house numbers.
  • Do not use WEP: it is obsolete and easy to crack. Stick with WPA2 or WPA3.
  • Hide your SSID? Not recommended. The signal is still detectable, and you will only make it harder to connect new devices.
  • Frequent guests? Enable Guest WiFi in Huawei Manager. It provides a second SSID with a configurable time limit.

Change the Password without a Browser?

Huawei Manager gives you quick access to the modem’s WiFi settings. Log in once, then manage the network, check data usage, and lock LTE bands from a single app. Download it free.
