How to Change the WiFi Password on a Huawei Modem
Published · August 7, 2026
Changing the WiFi password on a Huawei modem is straightforward. Log in to the admin page at 192.168.8.1 and follow these steps. They work on the B310, B312, Orbit Star 2 (B312-929), B525, and other Huawei modems.
Steps
- Connect your phone to the modem’s WiFi and open
192.168.8.1in a browser. - Log in. If you have never changed it, use the default
admin/admincredentials (see the default password list). - Open WLAN or WiFi then WiFi Basic Settings.
- In the SSID field, rename the network if you like.
- In the WPA PreSharedKey field, enter a new password. It must be at least 8 characters.
- Click Save or Apply.
Once saved, every connected device drops off. Reconnect them with the new password.
Tips
- Use a strong password: a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid birthdays and house numbers.
- Do not use WEP: it is obsolete and easy to crack. Stick with WPA2 or WPA3.
- Hide your SSID? Not recommended. The signal is still detectable, and you will only make it harder to connect new devices.
- Frequent guests? Enable Guest WiFi in Huawei Manager. It provides a second SSID with a configurable time limit.
